The reason yoga is such a powerful tool to have in your toolbox for height is because it will help stretch you out. There are areas in the body that when put under stress from exercises (or stretches) can adapt to this stress by lengthening and becoming stronger. For example swimming helps straighten out the posture of the spine (which will have deteriorated over the years from bad habits such as carrying heavy bags etc) which in turn can give you a little extra height.
The following exercises to follow are ones that you can either do at the gym to warm up, when you get out of bed in the morning or you could just take up yoga which has plenty of these incorporated in!
This position is named the cobra because you are making a snake like shape with your body. What you will want to do is lie down on the floor placing your palms on the floor under your shoulders and then you will want to push your body up whilst leaning back and arching your spine as much as possible. When you can't go up anymore then you hold the position for 30 seconds, release and then repeat.
The bowl is named this because you make a bowl shape with your body (and superman shape when you turn around).
To do this you will want to lie down on the floor on your back with your legs and arms extended. You will want to raise both your arms and legs up as high as you can to form a bowl shape and then hold the position when you can't go any higher for 10 seconds, rest and repeat. After doing this 3 times you will want to spin around onto your chest and repeat the exercise.
This is a stretch you can do wherever you feel like doing it. All you have to do is stand up tall, extend your hands as high as they will go and stretch, lean back slightly and you will feel this in your lower back. Hold this for 10 seconds, rest and then repeat again.
This is a really basic one, all you have to do is touch your toes. You may think that this is easy but make sure that your legs are completely straight and when you bend down that you keep your back straight and make sure that you don't bend your knees either! Hold this position for 5 sessions, rest and then repeat.
Just by following these stretches to grow taller you will soon start to see improvements in your height when you walk past the mirror.
Following these stretches to grow taller everyday in the morning and before you go to sleep will be very effective for you. However if you really want to make some progress then what you will need to do is follow a step-by-step program that includes exercises, nutrition plan and other bits and bobs to help you with your height.
A plan that I suggest you follow can be found on the growing taller blog which also is filled with plenty of free information on various methods that you can use to increase your height!
